Hiroshi Sugimoto at Pace Beijing
July 6, 2012

BEIJING, CHINA—Hiroshi Sugimoto first solo show in China, ends tomorrow at Pace Gallery’s Beijing location. The exhibition features highlights from the photographer’s career, portraying the wide range and evolution of technique.

In recent years, Sugimoto has emerged as one of the most widely known living artists. This show provides an opportunity for the Chinese art audience to view a large survey of his work. Three of his most famous series Dioramas, Theaters, and Seascapes are on view, as well as his most recent series, Lightning Fields.

In Seascapes series, frozen images of an aquatic horizon blur the line between sky and ocean, while the overexposed indoor shots in Theaters create an eerie luminescence. These are just two of many ways in which Sugimoto uses the black and white photography as a tool to give reality an eerie, other-worldly quality.
