Christian Marclay’s ”The Clock” at Lincoln Center
July 11, 2012
NEW YORK CITY— Heralded as a “masterpiece of our time,” Christian Marclay’s 24-hour film montage “The Clock” will be on view in New York City for the second time. The continuous film uses a combination of movie clips, all relating to the theme of time.
The film is a continuous series of ticking clocks and watches, all synchronized with the present hour. The streaming scenes blend a variety of actions, sounds, and music that are drawn from different eras in film history, but are arranged chronologically to accurately reflect a 24 hour day in real time.
Marclay’s piece was premiered at London’s White Cube gallery in 2010, then travelled to Sydney and Los Angeles. Its first New York showing was in January 2011 at the Paula Cooper Gallery, before traveling to the 54th Venice Biennale, where it won the prestigious Golden Lion award.
The timeless montage will be on display at the David Rubenstein Atrium in Lincoln Center starting July 13th. Admission is free, on a first come first served basis.
