Turner Prize 2012 – Nominees announced

The four nominees for the 2012 Turner Prize have been announced. Spartacus Chetwynd, Luke Fowler, Paul Noble and Elizabeth Price are shortlisted to win to what is regarded by some as the most prestigious contemporary art prize in Britain, if not the world.

The £25,000 prize is awarded annually for an outstanding exhibition by an artist under 50 years old who was born in or lives in Britain.

Work by the shortlisted artists will be shown in an exhibition at Tate Britain, opening on October 2.

The winner will be announced at a ceremony on December 3. Last year the prize went to Martin Boyce and previous winners include Anish Kapoor, Grayson Perry, and Damien Hirst.

Spartacus Chetwynd is famous for her lively performances, which typically involve audience participation, music, and colorful costumes and props. She was the first artist to exhibit in the New Museum’s Studio 231, which opened last year in downtown Manhattan.
